Day to Day Life: Week 48 and 49

A look at the last couple weeks:

Lunch at Sammich with my Mother-in-Law one afternoon… I got the turkey – their house-brined roasted turkey, house-made cranberry sauce, mayo & lettuce on an italian loaf. So consistently good.

Nana got the “Nagurski Melt” special – house smoked pork loin, havarti, cheddar, arugula, green sriracha mayo, and grilled onions on italian loaf. Looked tasty!

Thanksgiving prep! Homemade cranberry apple sauce, Field Roast chorizo and ciabatta stuffing, sweet potatoes pureed with bourbon and spices, vanilla cheesecake with a gingersnap crust and mushrooms that eventually made it into vegetarian gravy.

The last of the Thanksgiving leftovers later in the week in one of the weirdest dinners I’ve made in a while. Pan fried mashed potato cakes with cheddar and ketchup, all the leftover roasted veggies pan fried with the remaining stuffing and roast, sweet potato casserole.

The Sunday after Thanksgiving was Craig’s birthday. He made a real complicated birthday meal request of veggie dogs, slaw, and potato salad. And a chocolate sheet cake with dark chocolate frosting.

My favorite stray feline came by for a visit. Jumpy cat comes around once or twice a year, is a complete affection whore, then goes off on his desired adventures in the town.

I made him a little spot on the porch this time, as its been pretty cold. He took a long nap before moving on for the night.

Taco night!

Got some senior pictures of this dude… the end of the photo shoot ended with an equal number of shots such as this one.

Hope you’ve had a lovely week! :)

Day to Day Life: Week Twenty

We have had quite the week as you’re about to get a peek at. If you remember last week, we had an emergency visit to the ER with Silas. Well, on Monday we received a phone call saying his blood had tested positive for bacteria, so we should return to the hospital. That afternoon, more blood was drawn but the doctor concluded that it was likely Silas simply had a viral infection that would go away on its own. On Tuesday we received another phone call from a different doctor saying Silas’s blood tested positive for bacteria again and we needed to take him to a larger hospital in the next town over. We have been in the hospital since (still here as I type this). He’s been an incredible trooper through this whole ordeal, withstanding blood tests, excruciating pain, narcotics to alleviate said pain, an MRI, x-rays, ultrasounds, multiple IV insertions… At least we have an official diagnosis of a deep bone infection in his leg. He is on the mend and we are hopefully going home on Tuesday! That said, here’s that glimpse:

The day Silas got admitted to the hospital, all I could get him to eat at home was the following…

Silas’s mom spent a couple nights in the hospital with him, giving Craig and I a chance to run home and sleep in our own bed. We got to catch Vincent’s play at the high school on one of those nights.

And I got the chance to visit with Chicken, who hasn’t had much love over the last few days (this is the third night in a row Craig and I have slept here in the hospital).

Day to Day Life: Week Seventeen

Chicken’s parents had more babies (OUTSIDE! Like normal pigeons!) yet they seem to be managing to find their way into the house whenever the hell they want. This is one of Chicken’s new siblings. Vincent’s named her/him New Vincent Chicken.

Day to Day Life: Week Fifteen

A glimpse at the last week:

Spring time means lots of greens and blues…

Empanadas one night (and lunch the next day!).
IMG_9784

Crazy-face.
IMG_9525

Panko crusted eggplant burgers with roasted piquillo peppers, fontina, garlic basil parmesan mayo, fresh spinach and onions…!
IMG_9791

Blues and greens, blues and greens…
IMG_9542

Necessary.
IMG_9758

Silas stayed home from school one day. For lunch, he said, “Can I have mac and cheese… the box kind… and maybe some tofurky dogs?”
IMG_9752

Veiny.

IMG_9862

It had been quite some time since I last made pizza crust with my now three year old started… Happy dough ball.
IMG_9806

And happy pizzas!
IMG_9836

Silas had a mid-week baseball game, which meant we weren’t home until nearly 8PM. Ahh, spring-kid-scheduled-life. He got to pitch and had five strike-outs in less than two innings!

Silas’s second baseball game got rained out after they’d batted one inning. This photo is precisely what the game looked like.
IMG_9889

After “the game” we asked what he wanted for lunch? “Cheesy tater tots (which was brilliant, BTW!) and… a salad?” Salad while the ‘tots baked.

What to do when both kids have a sleepover at your house? WAFFLE SUNDAY.
