We have had quite the week as you’re about to get a peek at. If you remember last week, we had an emergency visit to the ER with Silas. Well, on Monday we received a phone call saying his blood had tested positive for bacteria, so we should return to the hospital. That afternoon, more blood was drawn but the doctor concluded that it was likely Silas simply had a viral infection that would go away on its own. On Tuesday we received another phone call from a different doctor saying Silas’s blood tested positive for bacteria again and we needed to take him to a larger hospital in the next town over. We have been in the hospital since (still here as I type this). He’s been an incredible trooper through this whole ordeal, withstanding blood tests, excruciating pain, narcotics to alleviate said pain, an MRI, x-rays, ultrasounds, multiple IV insertions… At least we have an official diagnosis of a deep bone infection in his leg. He is on the mend and we are hopefully going home on Tuesday! That said, here’s that glimpse:
The day Silas got admitted to the hospital, all I could get him to eat at home was the following…
And I think this was the last meal I’ve cooked in a week…
Day One.
Si and his Mama.
HOSPITAL FOOD.
Silas’s mom spent a couple nights in the hospital with him, giving Craig and I a chance to run home and sleep in our own bed. We got to catch Vincent’s play at the high school on one of those nights.
And I got the chance to visit with Chicken, who hasn’t had much love over the last few days (this is the third night in a row Craig and I have slept here in the hospital).
Silas and his dad.
Board games helped the time pass a little more quickly…
Morning shenanigans.
A friend of ours gave Silas an activity book where you build pom pom monsters. Here are our creations (and the pink one belongs to Silas’s sister).
Baseball buddies visiting today!
Our friend Janet also came to visit…
And a much needed break outside of the hospital… (Photo credit to Janet)
Let’s hope next week is filled with more locations, a healthy boy, and much more home cooking!
I’m glad he’s recovering! Plenty good vibes to you and your family :)
Thanks, Kels!
